Seeing that smiling is one of the simplest techniques of effective communication, it's really is quite something that we even have to raise it up for discussion.

But in a world plagued with trouble and distress, a smile is truly precious today.

Smiling is non-verbal communication and often it speaks louder than any word you can say. A smile says, “I like you. I am interested in you.”

I don’t know about you, but when somebody smiles at me and says a simple, “Hi.” It really makes my day as I reply with a smile.

The Chinese even have a saying,“ A man without a smiling face must not open a shop.”

And it is so important in leadership that you learn to smile, because it communicates a sort of friendliness and openness and it makes you a more attractive leader.

Followers would want to hang around you more, and they would be more eager to listen and be engaged by you.

In fact, it was found in a study done in the University of Michigan that people who smile more than to manage, teach and sell better.

As a leader, it’s your job to manage your organization well, teach your team new insights, and sell your organizational vision to them.

What simpler way to start off on the right foot with them than by a simple smile for the day.

It’s so obvious it seems almost… redundant that I’m talking about it, but having said that; how many people do you notice in a typical day smiling?

Do you walk around with a straight, stern face yourself? I know I'm guilty of that sometimes.

The truth is, sometimes we don’t smile because we don’t feel like it. It’s tough to force a smile when you’re just simply so tired and you’ve had a tough day at work. You just had to rush a project and you had a quarrel with your colleague.

But you can’t leave it as that. You have to be proactive; not reactive to your circumstances. When the day is bad, no matter; force yourself to start smiling at people.

Focus your thought life on the positive things. Yes, you had a bad quarrel, but hey, it’s not the end of the world; think about your great future ahead as a leader!

When I have had a lousy day, the natural thing for me to do is to start drifting off and think negatively about everything. But I stop myself there.

Upon realizing my thoughts running astray, I immediately cut myself off and think about something else. Something brighter.

Learn to focus your thought life, and your smiles will naturally come.

And when you start smiling, you’ll notice the people around you get friendlier, and you will have richer and deeper relationships with the people around you; your friends, your family and so on.

Smiling is really one of the simplest techniques of effective communication that you can apply immediately to your life! Give it a try today and you'll notice more smiles in the people around you.
