Team quotes – I once heard a really smart quote:
There is no I in Team.
It basically says that for a real team to be formed, every member must put aside their own agendas and put the team’s goal as the first pursuit.
All the great people of history have put their own interests aside to see a team, organization, country’s goal come to pass. This is because they know that there is not I in team.
People like Braveheart who fought for the freedom of his people, put aside his personal freedom and even his life. He put the ‘I’ aside. That was how he managed to gather his army to fight against the English.
There’s this saying, a house divided cannot stand. If there are people in the team fighting for their own interests, then the whole organization will not be able to function well as a team.
There is where you hear your stories of kingdoms falling apart, churches split and organizations dissolving.
As a leader, before you instill it into your team, you must live it by example; how can you as a leader, put your own interest aside for the common goal to happen?
If you want to build a truly effective team, then you must learn that ‘I’ has no place in it.
