Nicco Machiavelli on modern leadership – Machiavelli was a Italian writer and statesman, Florentine patriot of the 15th century. He made a quote that we could relate on in modern leadership. I'm not interested in preserving the status quo; I want to overthrow it. Leaders are really uninterested to know what the norm or culture of a place is. Rather, they usually live off their own values and beliefs instead of trying to conform to what everyone around them is saying. Leaders sometimes would want to overthrow status quo because they find that it is not beneficial or even harmful to people around them; these are good leaders. Of course there are those who want to overthrow the status quo just for the sake of it; these are not leaders, they are rebels without a cause. Remember, the status quo has become such and such as a result of another leader’s action. For example, in Singapore, the status quo is to study hard, get a good job and have a good, secure life. This was because this model was necessary to bring the country of Singapore from a third world country to a first world country. However, now things need to change because Singapore sees the need for more and more people to challenge what is and become more entrepreneurial. As a leader, you must know that the culture around you is formed by the collective beliefs of the people within that culture. You must be sharp to spot the flaws within that culture and like what Machiavelli said, be ready to overthrow it! Return from Nicco Machiavelli on modern leadership to Leadership Quotes
