1 hour

instructionsInstructions

1. The instructor should start by explaining the importance of goal setting. It was shown that top performing companies all had clear goals that they strived towards together.

2. Then depending on the nature of the goal setting session, the instructor should ask the participants to set organizational goals. For example, it could be “Things I want to achieve at the end of the conference.” Or “Goals I want my department to meet by the end of this financial year.”

3. Give out the Goal Setting Sheet for them to fill up.

4. After about 15 minutes, get the group to come together to discuss the goals that they have set using the S.M.A.R.T goals system.

a. Is your goal specific?
b. Is its measurable; i.e are you able to tell that you achieved it?
c. What are the action plans set out to achieve this goal?
d. Is it realistic? Or is it too far-fetched?
e. What is the deadline for the goal to happen?

5. After discussing, the group should decide on which goals they should adopt. It should be a full complete agreement with everyone so that everyone will take full ownership of seeing that goal come to pass.

debriefingDebriefing Notes

1. Does everyone enthusiastically agree with the corporate goals that are set?

2. Does everyone in the group know their exact role in making sure the goals come to pass? You can do a round the table check by asking each participant about this.
